May 31 is the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression and Famine. This day will forever remain in the history of our people, we must remember and honor the memory of all those who died.

In 1937-1938 alone, over 103 thousand people were innocently convicted in Kazakhstan, more than 25 thousand were shot.

Among them were the Kazakh intelligentsia: scientists, cultural figures and politicians.

On May 31, according to tradition, at the old Muslim cemetery in a memorial prayer was read to Kokshetau at the graves of the scientist, educator Nauan Hazret, the mother of the Hero, academician Malik Gabdullin Aliya Ospankyzy and Ayan – the son of the poet, prominent statesman Saken Seifullin. The event was organized by the Malik Gabdullin Museum and flowers were laid.
